The Balloon Arch was Magic

Memories of Friday

I've been afraid that if I talk about it, I'll wake up from the amazing dream that was "Tuesday on Friday."

Was it just me, or was that not a majorly amazing party? It was a time!

Thanks to everyone who was a part of it!

Day 30

OMG! Guys - this is it! Day 30.

We made it! Me and my bow.

You know you want one! It's not only adorable; it's also handmade right here on Capitol Hill. And, according to Italian Vogue, bows are #2 of the top 10 trends for A/W 2010. Even Michelle Obama agrees!

You can order yours online as soon as Friday at tuesdaysmith.com, or pick one up at the Tuesday on Friday event!

Day 29

LOVE this Rachel Comey dress, also from totokaelo. It is major!

In preparation for Tuesday on Friday, I am playing this Thompson Twins song on repeat all week!:

If you were here
I could deceive you
And if you were here
You would believe
But would you suspect
My emotion wandering, yeah
Do not want a part of this anymore

YEAH!

Day 28

Just got this Hope t-shirt/sweater/dress thing yesterday from totokaelo. As a Scandanavian myself, I can't help but be proud to see so many creative things coming out of Sweden lately.

Always excellent: pepparkakor gingersnap cookies, as made every Christmas by my Mor Mor.

Day 27

Dear Mr. Vernon,

We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong, but we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms and the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain...and an athlete...and a basket case...a princess...and a criminal. Does that answer your question?

Sincerely yours, The Breakfast Club

Day 26.5

OMG! I am obsessed with this shirt.

And yes, I own a leather skirt. Sorry, mom! But isn't it kind of amazing!? It's Erick Hart, from Veridis. Because how many times in your life do you get to buy a leather skirt? Not that many times, for me, anyway.

OK, so who is partying on down with me and Tuesday Smith herself next Friday!?

Cupcakes will be served.

Day 26

Oh boy! Just one week until "Tuesday on Friday"!!!

For those of you who don't know the details, check it out!

And only four days left in my 30-day bow belt challenge... Looks like I am going to make it ;).

Day 25

Thomas Alva Edison says:

“The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are, first, hard work; second, stick-to-itiveness; third, common sense.”

“I never failed once. It just happened to be a 2000-step process.”

“Nearly every man who develops an idea works it up to the point where it looks impossible, and then he gets discouraged. That's not the place to become discouraged.”

Day 24

This past weekend we had the fun project of touring Area 51, making selects for party décor. It's going to look amazing! And if you haven't visited the store, you must. We've had so much luck there with furniture, from our couch to a truly glorious liquor cart to retro bowling lockers that we use for laundry storage. I have a hard time leaving that store empty-handed.

On Saturday we took home what appeared to be some sort of vintage police dispatch microphone thingy. I'm not sure what we're going to do with it, but it is beautiful!

Day 23

The try-on and purchase experience for this trench coat was - to say the least - thorough. The sales associate first effectively made me consider several styles to make sure that I was truly selecting the model that was best for me. She then required me to raise my arms to do the "driving test," making sure that the arm holes wouldn't fit too tight with hands on the steering wheel.

Next, I got a history lesson as to the origin of each coat flap, most seeming to be related to toting artillery. I was last trained in the many ways to "style" the jacket, which I do think worked to my benefit today.

Day 22

Lily demanded that she be included today. We are graceful ladies :).

Cat bow belts are definitely next for Tuesday Smith.

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Day 21

Two items I am super-excited to see re-attain relevance after long resting periods:

(1) Flannel shirts. Especially this one by Chloë Sevigny For Opening Ceremony, with button-down shirt tails. Her unisex concept is so correct right now. I kind of wish I'd thought of it.

(2) Backpacks. Rock one!

Saturday, September 5, 2009

Day 20

You can't be serious.

Friday, September 4, 2009

Day 19

It's looking very Chloé today, without actually being Chloé. I am OBSESSED with the leather shorts Hannah MacGibbon did for A/W!!! Anyway, shirt and pants by Rag & Bone and 3.1 Phillip Lim respectively.

Bracelets are Alexis Bittar. I recently picked them up at Veridis, inspired by a "Rachel Zoe Project" marathon. I can't help it, I totally love Rachel Zoe. And she has the Panthère de Cartier ring, which - to me - is one of the most beautiful material objects in the world.

Day 18

Best cookbook ever: How to Cook Everything, by Mark Bittman. Thank you Julie!!!

Speaking of eats, the food at the Tuesday on Friday party is going to be divine! Attendees will feast on the following:

Quinn's Pub
zaw
Cupcake Royale
Dahlia Bakery

Be there! Friday, September 18th, 8pm-2am at Sole Repair, 1001 East Pike at 10th Avenue on Capitol Hill.

Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Day 17

Oh boy! Just 16 more days 'til our big party on Capitol Hill on September 18, "Tuesday on Friday"!!!

The fashion feature is going to be amazing, including designs from some of the best stores in Seattle!

totokaelo, Veridis, Hitchcock, Driftwood

Who said we only wear TNF fleeces here!?!? We are dripping with emeralds in this city.

(Bow is on the bun, BTW.)

Day 16

Tuesday inspiration from Kanye:

Work it harder, make it better
Do it faster, makes us stronger
More than ever, never over
Our work here is never over

N-n-now th-that don't kill me
Can only make me stronger
I need you to hurry up now
'Cause I can't wait much longer
I know I got to be right now
'Cause I can't get much wronger

Day 14

Oh!

I forgot to post on Sunday!

So I had to travel back in time to get a photo for Day 14.

I turned the clocks back to August 30, but found that - due to a shift in the space-time continuum - I was not a clumsy American named Lisa, but a graceful French ballerina called Lise.

I would have stayed and done Sunday bow-decked pirouettes forever, but had to come back so I could do Day 16.

Day 15

O.M.G.

Check out this dress Michelle Obama's wearing! It is all about the BOW!!!

Do you think I can send her a bow belt!? Could you imagine if she wore it!?

Day 15 ... half-way there!!!

Saturday, August 29, 2009

Day 13

Oscillate Wildly!!!

“I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.”

“There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.”

I like persons better than principles, and I like persons with no principles better than anything else in the world.”

“I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.”

Friday, August 28, 2009

Day 12

Suspenders are super!

Today I've got two bows happening. The second is a necklace from Kimberly Bakery Jewelry, called "Blair" - I'm assuming Waldorf - which wraps a wish bone in a bow. Website product copy reads: "You wish you had her luck, wrapped in a big, beautiful bow. Now you can have it—take, take." That's cute.

I'm also obsessed with these Karen Walker sunglasses, which I picked up at totokaelo, which is AMAZING!

Check it out: www.totokaelo.com

Day 11

It was Coco Chanel's birthday last week (a Leo like me!) so I'm paying homage today. So many good Coco quotes:

"A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous."

"
Success is often achieved by those who don't know that failure is inevitable."

"The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!"

"How many cares one loses when one decides not to be something but to be someone."

Wednesday, August 26, 2009

Day 10

Day 10 - 1/3 of the way there! And - deep for 5am on a Wednesday - about 1/3 of the way through an average lifespan.

In the words of the famous Cher Horowitz, "It's like carpe diem, all right?"

Here's where I try my best to look ballerina-esque.

Tuesday, August 25, 2009

Day 9

Rainy day! Burberry gets a bow.

Since I don't have anything too insightful to say on a Tuesday morning, I was searching for something insightful that someone else said, and came across this funny thing from e.e. cummings:

"Listen; there's a hell of a good universe next door: let's go."

Monday, August 24, 2009

Day 8

Today presents a balance challenge! I have an incredibly large bow on the head and an incredibly large ring on the finger.

The pyrite ring was designed by the fabulous Erica Sheehan, of Hitchcock, in Madrona. It's incredible heft makes it rather difficult to type, but sometimes we must labor under the weight of fabulousness.

I watched the entire "Rachel Zoe" project this weekend, and her enormous jewelry inspired me.

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Day 7

The right accessory can be totally transformative! Today I threw the bow belt over a few layers from UO and American Apparel. Nothing - not even the sneakers on my feet - cost over $35.

How amazing are Keds again? I think Dr. Martens are next!

Saturday, August 22, 2009

Day 6

Saturdays are super. I got out of my pajamas at 4pm, took a bath, and then put them back on.

This tote is feeling more motivated than I am, so bow goes around bag strap.

You know you love the harem pants.

Friday, August 21, 2009

Day 5

Bowtiful! My mom thought of that. Isn't it great!?

I hope your weekend is bowtiful!

Thursday, August 20, 2009

Day 4

Per yesterday's travels, our beloved bow held up beautifully at high altitudes.

It was put to an unexpected test when - at roughly 4:30pm - it experienced a head-on collision with a red velvet cupcake. Vanilla frosting wiped off magically. Good as new. Which is good. As we have 26 days to go!

Have a lovely one :).

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

Day 3

This morning we get to see how our beloved bow holds up at 30,000 feet (on an early flight to San Fran.)

Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Day 2

Today is a low bow on the side. Bangs are long so they get side-swiped, too.

Up early for work and working on this:

"The master of the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both."

- James a Michener

Day 1

I want to start by thanking Julie for her support, Piotr for his ingenuity, Gabriel for his imagination, Aidan for her mad sewing skills (as well as for her amazing mohawk), Sara for this blog, and Aaron for just being Aaron. And September for being bizarre.

We made this belt, which is a bow, which is cute! and versatile. I aim to wear it for 30 days straight to prove it's versatility. And to do some serious QA.

Previous to this, I've had essentially no experience in fashion, unless you consider making more or less constant trips to Barneys as experience. I read that "The Colonel" didn't start KFC until he was like 65, so I figure that now is a good a time as any to start something new. If not now, when? Or, as my yoga instructor says (shoutout to the Sweatbox!), "If you can, you must." So...enjoy!

Test Bow

Testing! 1,2,1,2!

Bow belt = check!

Camera = check!

Concrete wall = check!

The strange goal of wearing a bow around my waist for thirty days straight = check!
